Tuesday's Hearsay and Conjecture: Armageddon Style

Men's Basketball Starts Out Strong

Lost in the shuffle of Armageddon Week, the Michigan Men's Basketball team has posted a 3-0 start to the young basketball season. Playing in the John Thompson Challenge, Michigan swept Central Connecticut, Davidson, and Eastern Michigan to win the Challenge. Michigan won each game by at least 10 points.

What was particularly encouraging was the strong, consistent performance of Dion Harris. Harris was named tournament MVP after posting 19 points, 23 points (6 assists), and 5 points (5 assists, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 1 block in 18 minutes). Brent Petway was a ridiculous force on the boards during the tournament posting 7, 13, and 9 rebound games. Courtney Sims played well too, 7 points (3-5) 9 boards, 21 points 3 boards, and 17 points 4 boards in three games. Ron Coleman has also been a pleasant surprise, actually knocking down jumpers.

The rookie watch was also impressive. Reed Baker posted 3 steals in 18 minutes of playing time during the tourney. Jevohn Sheppard posted 4 steals, a block, an assist and 7 points in 17 minutes during Michigan's third game. Deshawn Sims had 3 blocks, 4 boards and 9 points in 14 minutes. K'len Morris and Epke Udoh also posted some good numbers for younger players.

What was concerning was the number of turnovers. Michigan gave the ball back 17 times in the first game, 15 the second, and 19 the third. That is BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD news. This is not a good enough team to get away with crappy ball handling like that. Shooting percentages were also problematic. However, Michigan was ahead comfortably in all three games. Jerret Smith appears to have regressed. Baker may take over the main back up role once he settles down. looking at his early numbers, Reed is playing nervous. Once he gets used to the tempo and wearing a real D-1 jersey, he could be a solid role player.

Michigan hosts Milwaukee-Wisconsin Wednesday night. They went to the tourney last year. This could be a much more important early game than anyone is giving credit for.

The Internets Are Blazing Like A Poo Filled Cooler In Columbus

As part of the build up to Michigan Ohio State, the good people over at CSTV.com have started a little Battle 'O the Blogs. They're matching up the best Michigan and OSU blogs on the internets and letting them have at it. So far they've covered who's got the best gameday atmosphere and the better stadium.

Me? Well they lined me up to cover who's gonna win the Ohio State Offense versus Michigan Defense matchup. That'll be up on Thursday. Nothing too complicated, just the key to friggin game! Fear not intrepid readers, I will explain it all, and in small words so our OSU brethren can follow along.

Man, I Wish I Had A Kickass Shirt For Saturday!

Funny you should mention that. Maize n Buy is up and running.
